DIYAutoTune Competitors Shake Up Hot Rod Drag Week 2015

DocMcEntire_68CamaroDrag Week is a grueling 5-day, ‘One Lap of America-‘ style event where competitors are required to make at least one pass at 5 different raceways and travel over 1,100 miles on a prescribed route to get to each location. This means that your racecar must also be a legal street car and be capable of making the journey on the road. The competitor with the quickest average elapsed time wins the class for the event. Hot Rod Drag Week is the quintessential ‘braggin’ rights’ event of the year. DIYAutoTune equipped a number of competitors for this year’s event which spanned 4 states in just 5 short days.

Perhaps the most interesting competitor was James ‘Doc’ McEntire, who entered his MS3-Pro powered 1968 Camaro with ZERO hours or miles on his combination other than a 30 minute street tuning session with our Senior Calibrator. However, we tested the 673cid all-billet Goodwin Competition monster last month where it made 1415hp! His journey wasn’t without issues, though he finished the week with a Pro Street Naturally Aspirated Class Win and officially reset the Drag Week NA record to 8.375 @ 169.3mph. More Info.

JayBrown_69MustangJay Brown entered Drag Week in his MS3X powered 1969 Mustang Shelby 500 clone with a very unique SOHC engine he personally developed on his own engine dyno. His naturally aspirated 585ci Ford motor makes a whopping 992hp and proved to be a strong contender in a competitive class. Jay finished the event with a Modified Naturally Aspirated Class Win with an average ET of 8.9874. More Info.

Matt Blasco entered the event with a 1972 Dodge Dart running a big block Mopar engine and a pair of ginormous turbos. His combination was rumored to make over 2000hp at the wheels and he was grouped in a trio of incredibly fast cars in the Modified Power Adder Class, which is one of the most competitive classes in all of Drag Week. After ruling the class for the first 3 days, Matt lost his transmission on Day 4 in Cordova, IL, spiraling him down to 5th place overall, but he wasn’t done yet. On day 5, Matt ran a stellar 7.719 @ 178.99, earning him the ‘Quickest Mopar’ Trophy. More Info.
