Joey Logano Wins a Thriller Xfinity Series Race at Talladega Superspeedway

Roush YatesJoey Logano in his Discount Tire, FORD Mustang powered by Roush Yates Engines won his third Xfinity Series race Saturday. It was his 24th victory in the Xfinity Series in the 24th Annual Winn Dixie 300 at Talladega Superspeedway.

A late race caution with 8 laps to go had four FORD’s leading the field with Elliot Sadler, Joey Logano, Chris Buescher and Aric Almirola. Logano fell back to third with 4 to go but with a powerful slingshot move to the outside in the tri-oval, he regained the lead. On the final lap, it was Logano down low and Buescher up high fighting door to door with Logano inching to the front in turn 4 for the win.

“It’s such a fast Discount Tire FORD,” said Logano after the race. “There’s never a Talladega win that comes easy or not intense at the end of the race. I’m still trying to catch my breath it’s like a combination of old school draft and cars hooking up and bumping.”

The win is Logano’s third Xfinity Series win and fifth top-10 finish in 2015. He also led a race-high 40 laps at the 2.66 mile superspeedway.  Overall, he has two wins and six top-10 finishes in six races at Talladega in Xfinity Series competition.

“It’s cool to get our third win of the season right now,” said Logano, “This is a pretty special season so far. I’ve had some really fast cars and everyone is doing an awesome job.”

In all, FORD Mustangs led 56 of the 113 lap race with Logano leading 40, Sadler 19, Buescher 6 and Darrell Wallace Jr. 1. FORD Performance had a total of four drivers finish the Winn Dixie 300 in the top-10 including Logano first, Buescher in sixth, Sadler in seventh and Almirola in tenth.

Roush Fenway Racing has all four of its drivers in the top-10 in Xfinity Series points with Buescher second, Wallace Jr. fourth, Sadler seventh and Ryan Reed eighth. FORD Performance now leads the manufacturer points in the Xfinity Series while Roger Penske leads the owner standings with the 22 car. The Xfinity Series will be off this weekend but returns to action on Sunday, May 17th at Iowa Speedway.
