Castrol EDGE, Hot Wheels, Scotty Steele, Sheldon Creed, Speed Energy Stadium Super Trucks, Sydney 500, TRAXXAS

SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER TrucksSheldon Creed captured Saturday’s thrilling second exhibition race of the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS (SST) at the Sydney 500 in Homebush, New South Wales, Australia besting versatile Norwell, Queensland, Australia driver Paul Morris.

Hot Wheels / Castrol EDGE driver Matt Mingay of Gold Coast, Queensland, Aus.; finished third, holding off the first starting Scotty Steele of Peoria, Ariz., whom spun on the opening corner of the race. Steele would work his LIVE/ Think Loud Entertainment truck back up to the fourth position in the finishing order.

As thousands of spectators lined the 13-turn 2.1-mile (3.4 km) Sydney Olympic Park street circuit to watch 11 TRAXXAS-branded trucks launch off of man-made ramps on the same DOT-approved Toyo Tires that consumers can buy. The loud raucous cheers of disbelief from the thousands of Australian SST fans could be heard over the trucks as fans of traditional V8 Supercar racing saw the trucks literally fly through the air side by side beating and banging in complete racing chaos.

Creed, the 2015 SST Champion from Alpine, Calif., who put on a driving clinic for the fans at Sydney Olympic Park on Friday afternoon did not stop there as he started last on the grid for Saturday’s second exhibition race. Creed drove past truck after truck calm and collectively working his way to the front.

A Lap-3 collision involving second place running Renmark, South Australia, Aus.; driver Brad Gallard in his Fly360 truck, and third place Gold, Coast, Queensland, Aus.; driver Rob Whyte would allow Creed to drive right by on the bottom of the track with ease into the second position stalking leader Mingay.

A Lap-4 restart would allow Creed to set up Mingay going into the first corner and work his way past for the lead. Creed would hit all his marks the final four circuits to work a considerable lead ahead of the rest of the field to capture his eleventh victory of the season.

SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER TrucksGallard would recover from early contact with Whyte to finish in fifth position just ahead of fellow South Australian Greg Gartner in his Clipsal 500 Adelaide / Toyo Tires truck.

Nazareth, Penn., driver Bill Hynes piloting his United Fiber and Data truck would go on to avoid all the carnage and chaos around him to cross the finish with a respectable seventh.

Looking to back up his fifth place finish on Friday the Just Car Insurance / Motul Oil TRAXXAS truck of Rob Whyte whom encountered front end damage with his contact with Gallard earlier in the event pulled his truck to the pits on the final lap when his hood would block his vision completely. Whyte would go on to be credited with eighth.

The SPEED Energy / Toyo Tires driver Robby Gordon would have a difficult day as he would encounter a rare mechanical issue, when the rear end housing would break on sixth lap dropping him out of contention.

TRAXXAS driver P.J. Jones of Scottsdale, Ariz., would also encounter trouble on the opening circuit of the race bringing him to pit road early crediting him with a tenth place finish.

Rounding out the field Gold Coast, Queensland, Aus.; driver Matt Brabham would make extensive contact with the tire barrier running fourth on the first lap ending his race early and recording him with the eleventh position in the finishing order.

The SST trucks will return to the Homebush Street Circuit for a third exhibition race Sunday morning in front of another anticipated capacity crowd at 11:35 a.m. local time just prior to the V8 Supercars Championship Finale. Sunday’s event will be shown LIVE on Fox Sports in Australia. Check your local Fox Sports Channel for time and channel.
