Keegan Kincaid Wins SST Presented by Traxxas Race No. 2 at Toronto

Keegan Kincaid drove his TRAXXAS-sponsored truck to a soggy victory Sunday in Toronto in the second SPEED Energy Stadium Super Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS race at the Honda Indy Toronto.

Keegan KincaidThe Crandon, Wisc. driver won his second race of the 2015 season, the first coming in March in Adelaide, Australia. Sheldon Creed of Alpine, Calif., made it a one-two finish for TRAXXAS as the 17-year-old snookered veteran Robby Gordon and his SPEED Energy-sponsored truck on the 10th and final lap to finish second. As Kincaid kept a comfortable lead on the field, Creed and Gordon traded second place through much of the second half of the race, with Gordon steering clear of the wet and slippery concrete patches on the inside of each corner around the 11-turn, 1.755-mile (2.84 km) street circuit around Exhibition Place.

However, in the closing moments of the final lap, it was Creed that took the high line staying on the asphalt which offered better traction in the driving rain storm, forcing Gordon to attempt to make a pass on the concrete. Gordon spun while racing side-by-side with Creed, allowing the TRAXXAS driver to take second, with Gordon recovering to finish third.

Keegan KincaidFirst-time SST competitor Matt Brabham of Gold Coast, Australia finished fourth in a Toyo Tires truck, ahead of Charles Dorrance in the Sportsman Finest SST and Bill Hynes coming home sixth in a LIVE/Think Loud Entertainment truck. First time SST competitor and 15-year-old Toronto driver Russell Boyle finished seventh, with LIVE/Think Loud Entertainment teammates Scotty Steele and E.J. Viso crashing out of the race to finish eighth and ninth respectively. Steele captured his first career SST victory inSaturday’s first Toronto race.

Unlike most racing series, despite the rain in Toronto Sunday, the DOT-approved all-terrain Toyo Tires that the SST trucks race on each week allow the series to race rain or shine, and on Sunday the large but wet crowd that came to downtown Toronto got to see a great race featuring trucks flying through the air and sliding through corners.

Keegan KincaidThe ramps launch the trucks as much as 20 feet in the air and 150 feet down course. The series features identically prepared trucks made to resemble their scaled-down Traxxas radio-control-car counterparts, and like their Traxxas namesake are designed to take flight and stand up to rough driving. However, unlike RC trucks, they produce 600 horsepower generating speeds upwards of 130 miles per hour and race on DOT approved Toyo Tires.

About SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by Traxxas

Influenced by the former Mickey Thompson Stadium Off-Road Racing Series, where drivers such as Gordon, Casey Mears and six-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson got their start, Gordon created SST in response to the public’s overwhelming interest in trucks and off-road racing. His plan to re-launch the former stadium series has led to exciting racing on both asphalt and dirt, while producing one of the most extreme forms of action sports today.

Other than the trucks launching 20 feet in the air covering distances more than 150 feet, what sets the SST program apart from other series is the fact that all the SST trucks are identically prepared and delivered to drivers in race-ready condition. Race winners are decided by driver skill rather than individual team engineering and budgets. Drivers and their personal mechanics are assigned specific SST mechanics who together tune and make minor adjustments to the 600-horsepower trucks.
